“The Shape of Things to Come” depicts a couple on the beach promenade, both of them with bare feet; the man is standing behind the woman, providing shelter from the rain with an umbrella. Though it is raining, it does not seem to be cold, as he is not wearing a jacket, and she has bare legs. She is enshrouded in what appears to be a large red towel. This Vettriano scene featured in “The Shape of Things to Come” could be a representation of any British seaside resort - it may even be Blackpool.
