Jack Vettriano’s “Someone Else’s Baby” depicts a couple sitting on a bench on a beach promenade, the sea behind them. The woman is turning away from the man, she is looking downwards, her eyes are almost closed. He is reaching towards her with his left hand, touching her back. They are having a conversation, but it looks like she wants to leave. Both are dressed formally, she is wearing a black costume and a red blouse; he is wearing a brown suit and a matching overcoat, and he is smoking a cigarette. The title would suggest that they are having an affair, she is married to another man, and she has probably just told him that she has become pregnant. An older man with a hat is standing behind the bench watching them.
