Vettriano’s “Her Secret Life” features a pretty young woman making a phone call from a public phone box – why does she not use her mobile phone? She is probably calling a man with whom she is having a dangerous affair to arrange a secret meeting and does not want to be discovered by her husband. She is nicely dressed, leaning relaxed against the telephone box, as if she expects to meet with somebody she wants to attract. The scenery in the painting depicts a warm, sunny day in a seaside town, on the beach promenade, the pennants in the background fluttering in the breeze.
